Pleasure Reading Progress

Hi, guys! Today’s post is about my individual reading progress. Approximately I’m in the middle of the book, and, to be honest, I’m a little bit disappointed now. After exploring the section Networking, I got the feeling that quite many chapters in this section do not relate to me completely. I didn’t find inspiring ideas to apply them to both my life and career path. If I didn’t just read the book but did the assignments, I wouldn’t be able to accomplish the things described in the chapters, and it makes me feel frustrated. Anyway, I have almost the half of the book to get a clearer idea of what the book is like indeed.

Still, in the section Networking I enjoyed reading about different ways of introducing yourself and its importance to practice it. You should know how to introduce yourself in different situations, using various introductions, which best fit at a particular moment. A new introduction of yourself enables you to feel differently. Different introductions help not to just keep the conversation going, but create an exciting dialogue, which reflects your current life. Such introductions aid to cause follow-up questions from an interlocutor that you expect to answer, so you will lead and control the conversation by the introduction you choose. It sounds a bit complicated, but in fact “you don’t need to have the perfect introduction that will convince everyone you meet that you are the most interesting and employable person in the room”. On the contrary, it should be quite simple. For example, if you are interested in multiple potential career paths, use the following structure: I work at the point where ____ meets _____meets______. By saying you work at an intersection, you get the opportunity to dive into any one of them if people ask you to explain any further; you can ask people how they see these three things fitting together, etc.

By the way, I’ve collected a one more portion of some new words:

satiated — satisfied to the full — насыщенный, пресыщенный.

to pique sb’s interest — to stimulate (interest or curiosity); to excite, to arouse — возбуждать интерес.

fiduciary — involving trust, especially with regard to the relationship between a trustee and a beneficiary — доверенный.

esoteric — 1) secret, covert, clandestine — секретный. 2) unclear, obscure — неясный.

to subvert — to undermine the power and authority of (an established system or institution), try to destroy or damage it — ниспровергать, разрушать.

to permeate — spread throughout (something); pervade — проникать.

to hone (a skill) — refine or perfect (something) over a period of time — отточить.

bustling — (of a place) full of activity, noisy, loud, fussy — шумный, суетливый.

to exacerbate — make (a problem, bad situation, or negative feeling) worse; strengthen — обострять, усиливать.

akin to smth — of similar character, resembling — похожий.
